IES Officer Trainees Complete Maritime Economy Programme at Vizag Port

Five-day course focused on port management, logistics and maritime policy.

Visakhapatnam: A five-day training programme on “Maritime Economy and Port Management” for Indian Economic Service (IES) officer trainees concluded at the Visakhapatnam Port Authority on Friday.

The programme was inaugurated by J.S. Bindra, chairperson of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority, and was aimed at providing participants with exposure to the maritime sector, port administration, infrastructure development, logistics, blue economy initiatives and policy frameworks supporting India’s maritime growth.

During the valedictory session, officials highlighted the importance of capacity-building programmes in equipping future economic policymakers with a better understanding of the maritime sector’s role in national economic development.

The programme also provided opportunities for interaction with experts, policymakers, industry leaders and senior port professionals.

Sessions were conducted by academicians and industry experts from organisations including the Indian Maritime University, Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), Railway Board, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Mumbai Port Authority and Dredging Corporation of India Limited.

Officials said the programme was designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of the maritime economy and its contribution to the country’s growth and development.
