Hyderabad's Old City To Shine: Iconic Monuments From Nayapul To Charminar To Be Illuminated
“Dozens of decorative cast aluminum poles and ornamental drop-down luminaries will be used to deck up the place. Architectural lighting will be used to enhance the beauty of these places”: GHMC official
HYDERABAD: The historic Old City will bask in a new glory, with most of the iconic monuments that dot Nayapul to Charminar, including Laad Bazaar and the four Charkamans, will be illuminated.
“Dozens of decorative cast aluminum poles and ornamental drop-down luminaries will be used to deck up the place. Architectural lighting will be used to enhance the beauty of these places,” said a GHMC official.
“We want to narrate the historical significance through the architectural illumination,” he added.
The ₹6.95-crore project will be funded by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) mandate. Charminar was shortlisted under the phase II of Swachh Iconic Places.
The Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA) and the GHMC will monitor the works. Though the departments had earlier planned to commence the work in January, it had missed the deadline.
The civic body wants to incorporate a mechanism which changes the colour of the lights giving the place an aesthetic look and ambience.
For the Charkamans — Charminar Kaman, Machli Kaman, Kali Kaman and Sher-e-Batil ki Kaman, and other places, the idea is to incorporate a mechanism which changes the colour of the lights.
