Temperatures are rising alarmingly in the Rayalaseema region following deficient rainfall due to the El Nino effect.

Mantralayam, the popular pilgrim centre in Kurnool district, recorded the highest temperature of 38.4°C among the Rayalaseema districts on Saturday. Several other areas experienced temperatures of 36°C and above.

In Anantapur district, Yellanur and Tadipatri recorded 37.2°C, followed by Anantapur Urban 37°C, Putlur and Kalyandurgam 36.8°C, and Vidapanakal 36.6°C.

Sri Sathya Sai district witnessed relatively high temperatures, with Talupula recording 37°C and Kadiri 36.8°C. Tanakal and Nambulapulakunta registered 36.6°C, Rekulakunta Weather Station scientist Dr. M. Narayana Swamy told Deccan Chronicle.

In Kurnool district, Kurnool Rural recorded 37.7°C, followed by Kodumur 37.4°C, Kallur 37.1°C, C. Belagal 36.9°C, Kurnool Urban 36.8°C, and Veldurthy and Holagunda 36.7°C.

In Nandyal district, Panyam recorded the highest temperature of 38.3°C, closely followed by Sanjamala and Pagidyala at 38.2°C, Uyyalawada 38°C, and Kothapalle and Dornipadu 37.9°C.

The readings indicate that temperatures have remained high across several parts of Rayalaseema, adversely impacting orchards, like those of sweet oranges, and other horticulture crops.
