Visakhapatnam:Visakhapatnam district collector and GVMC special officer M. Abhishek Kishore on Wednesday expressed dissatisfaction over non-completion of several GVMC development projects within the stipulated time frame. He directed officials to expedite these projects and improve the infrastructure for citizens.
During a review meeting held at the GVMC headquarters, GVMC commissioner Ketan Garg, along with senior engineering officials, provided the special officer a detailed account of the ongoing and proposed works. The review focused on projects scheduled for 2025–26, priority works for 2026–27, initiatives under the 15th Finance Commission, GVMC funds, Urban Challenge Fund, Amrit 2.0, Project Sarathi, and preparations for the upcoming Partnership Summit.
Abhishek Kishore examined the progress on various infrastructure components, including roads, junctions, footpaths, drains, parks, cemeteries, central medians, public toilets, pond beautification, streetlights, vending markets, hostels, stadiums, drinking water facilities, service roads, and zonal offices. He underlined the need to address delays by identifying their causes and resolving field-level issues in coordination with the relevant departments.
The special officer instructed staff to prioritise quality, maintain continuous monitoring, and develop long-term infrastructure plans aligned with the city’s master plan, while accounting for population growth and traffic demands.
Abhishek Kishore called for the beachside parks to be developed more attractively. He ordered officials to prepare comprehensive project details for the next review meeting. These details should include the proposal stage, administrative permissions, the tender process, work orders, commencement dates, current progress, completed portions, pending work, and expected completion dates. He stressed that advance planning and integration of necessary infrastructure are essential for the upcoming projects.
Those who participated in the review meeting included additional commissioners of GVMC, chief city planner, senior engineering officers, PMU representatives, and other officials.
