GVMC Establishes Dedicated Feeding Zones For Stray Dogs
GVMC is setting up designated stray dog feeding zones across Visakhapatnam to promote animal welfare, improve sanitation and prevent food waste on public roads.
The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has launched an initiative to set up designated feeding zones for stray dogs across the city, promoting animal welfare while keeping public spaces clean.
The Kamal Welfare Foundation supported the inauguration of a new feeding zone on Thursday in the APIILA Greenbelt area at Autonagar, Gajuwaka. GVMC city veterinary officer Dr K. Kiran Kumar inaugurated the facility alongside representatives from various organisations.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kiran Kumar said the programme aims to provide food and drinking water for stray dogs at designated locations while preventing food waste from accumulating on roads and in public spaces.
He said the city has already established three feeding zones, which have received a positive response from animal lovers and voluntary organisations. Each zone has feeding bowls and drinking-water troughs to support systematic feeding and care for stray animals.
Dr Kiran Kumar urged animal lovers to feed stray dogs only at designated centres rather than leaving food on roads or in other public areas. He said this approach would improve stray dog care while helping maintain sanitation standards across the city.
The Kamal Welfare Foundation has offered to support establishing around 25 feeding zones through Corporate Social Responsibility funding. APIILA helped establish the newly inaugurated facility at Autonagar as part of the initiative.
Dr Kiran Kumar said GVMC is also taking steps to establish additional feeding zones, keeping animal welfare, public convenience and urban cleanliness in mind. He appealed to animal welfare groups, voluntary organisations and industrial establishments to support the programme.
