Gov Congratulates AP Artists on Sangeet Natak Akademi Honours
He praised the artist's efforts in preserving the cultural tradition.
Vijayawada:Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer has congratulated artists from the state who have been selected for honours and awards of the Sangeet Natak Akademi in recognition of their contributions to India's performing arts traditions.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Governor congratulated Pasumarthi Rathaiah Sarma on being selected for the Akademi Ratna, the fellowship of the Sangeet Natak Akademi for 2024-25. He said the honour recognised the veteran guru's contribution to the classical dance form of Kuchipudi.
The Governor also extended his greetings to Vedantam Siddhendra Varaprasad and Pasumarthi Pavani for receiving the Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, awarded to young artists for excellence in the performing arts. He noted that all three awardees had been recognised in the Kuchipudi category.
Nazeer further congratulated Sindhe Chidambara Rao on receiving the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to the preservation and promotion of the traditional shadow puppetry art form. He praised the artist's efforts in preserving the cultural tradition.
In a separate message, the Governor congratulated Gummadi Gopalakrishna, chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Nataka Akademi, on receiving the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in the acting category.
Describing him as a noted exponent of Telugu padya natakam, the Governor said the award recognised his contribution to the promotion and preservation of the classical theatrical tradition.
He said the honours reflected Andhra Pradesh's rich cultural heritage and the dedication of artists working to preserve traditional art forms.
