Kakinada:Rain lashed the Razole Assembly constituency from the early hours of Saturday, with several coastal areas receiving torrential rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
In Shivakoti village of Razole mandal, a thatched house belonging to Chitturi Srinivas was gutted by fire after being struck by lightning. No casualties were reported as no one was inside the house at the time.
Locals said the lightning strike ignited a fire, causing a gas cylinder inside the house to explode. The house was completely destroyed and household items and other belongings were reduced to ashes. Fire personnel reached the spot and brought the fire under control.
Officials advised people to remain vigilant during lightning storms and avoid stepping out unless necessary.
Eluru, Kakinada, Polavaram, Konaseema, East Godavari and West Godavari districts received light to moderate rain on Saturday under the influence of a low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal.
The sky remained heavily overcast throughout the day, while cool winds swept across the region. Intermittent rain brought relief to residents from the prevailing weather conditions. Heavy rain was recorded in parts of West Godavari, including Undi mandal, and in Konaseema.
