Kakinada: A worker and a girl student were injured after a fire broke out following a gas leak at Dr B.R. Ambedkar Gurukul Girls Residential School at Penugonda in West Godavari district on Thursday.

The incident triggered panic among the 430 students staying at the residential school. According to officials, the mishap occurred when a worker was replacing a cooking gas cylinder in the school kitchen. Gas reportedly began leaking immediately after the seal of the new cylinder was removed.
The leaked gas caught fire from flames of another stove where cooking was already in progress. School staff immediately evacuated the students from the hostel. During the evacuation, a girl student sustained a fracture to her hand.
Officials said the staff responded promptly and extinguished the fire, preventing the incident from escalating further.
