VIJAYAWADA: A gas cylinder exploded with a loud bang near the venue of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s public meeting at Makineneni Basavapunnaiah Stadium in Ajit Singh Nagar, Vijayawada, on Wednesday evening, triggering panic among people attending the meeting.
The explosion occurred at a lemon soda cart located a short distance from the meeting venue. The sudden blast caused concern among those present, prompting police to immediately secure the area and bring the situation under control.
Police said the cylinder had been kept at the roadside lemon soda stall and was suspected to have exploded due to intense heat. A preliminary assessment indicated that the high temperatures may have caused the cylinder to explode.
The impact sent the cylinder flying nearly 60 metres before it landed on an electricity pole, resulting in a sudden power outage in the surrounding area.
Police took precautionary measures to prevent any further incident and reassured people at the meeting venue. There were no reports of any major untoward incident following the blast.
