Poleramma Jatara Begins in Venkatagiri Amid Tight Security
Officials said arrangements were being closely monitored to ensure the Poleramma Jatara is conducted peacefully and safely without causing any inconvenience to the devotees.
Nellore:The traditional Sri Poleramma Jatara, regarded as one of Venkatagiri’s major religious festivals, began in the town on Wednesday with the ceremonial preparation of the village deity’s clay idol.
As per tradition, the Poleramma idol was made with clay at a potter’s house in Kummari Veedhi, considered the deity’s maternal home.
The idol-making ceremony was completed around 6pm, following which devotees queued up there to offer prayers. As per tradition, the idol will later be taken to Chakali Chavadi in Jeenigala Vari Veedhi, considered the home of the deity’s in-laws, where it will be decorated before being taken in a procession to the temple.
Meanwhile, Tirupati district SP Subbarayudu said elaborate security arrangements had been made for the jatara. A four-tier security system, rope parties, Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and drones have been deployed to regulate crowds and monitor the procession.
More than 70 CCTV cameras have been installed in and around the temple, with round-the-clock monitoring through a command and control centre. Police have also identified sensitive and congested points and made arrangements for barricading, traffic diversions, lighting and additional forces.
The SP directed police personnel to deal with devotees courteously while taking firm action against law violations. He also instructed officials to coordinate with the revenue, endowments and electricity departments to ensure the smooth conduct of the festival.
