Gang of Thieves Busted in Anantapur; Recovery Valued at ₹46 Lakh
The recoveries included 313.14 grams of gold, 100 grams of silver ornaments, and ₹2.50 lakh in cash.
Anantapur:Anantapur district police on Friday busted a 12-member gang of thieves who stole gold jewellery and cash from passengers at RTC bus stands and railway stations, apart from crowded places. ₹46-lakh worth valuables have been recovered from them.
The arrested include five minors, who have been sent to a juvenile home.
Anantapur SP P. Jagadeesh said the gang targeted women passengers at RTC bus stands, railway stations, and other crowded places. They befriended or distracted victims and stole handbags.
In one case reported on November 7, 2025, the accused allegedly diverted the attention of a woman travelling in an auto in Anantapur and stole a handbag containing 25 tolas of gold.
The gang members are residents of Z. Veera Reddy Colony in Gooty town. They have been involved in eight theft cases in Anantapur town and rural areas.
