AP Personnel Win 27 Independence Day Police, Fire and Correctional Service Medals
The two awardees of the President’s Medals for Distinguished Service are inspector general Vijaya Kumar Gudi and inspector general Venkata Rami Reddy Balankari.
Vijayawada: Twenty-seven personnel from Andhra Pradesh have been selected for the police, fire and correctional service medals marking Independence Day 2026, with seven police personnel receiving the Medal for Gallantry (GM), two senior officers the President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM), and 14 police personnel the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM).
The official list shows that the state has secured seven GMs, two PSMs and 14 MSMs in the police category.
The seven gallantry awardees are armed reserve head constables Korlana Mallesh and Paidi Sri Rama Murthy, and police constables Adari Hema Sundara Rao, Chinthapalli Satyanarayana, Rowthu Mahesh, Abothula Appala Naidu and Ruthala Kanna Babu.

The 14 police personnel selected for the Medal for Meritorious Service are SP Geetha Devi Velaga; DSPs Subba Rao Tummala, Jaggu Naidu Penta, Chandramohan Sadepalli and Kanjakshan Pasupuleti; ASP Rama Krishna I; assistant commandant Mahaboob Basha Syed; head constables Srinivasa Raju Mantina and Raja Rao Rolupalli; armed police SIs Rama Prasad M and Seshapani Pagadala; ASIs Mohan Rao Yalapu, Basavaiah Podili and Chenchuramaiah Nadipineni.
The awards also recognise two AP Fire Service personnel with the Medal for Meritorious Service — district disaster response and fire officer Sathyanarayana Kapu and fireman Zacharaiah Penumaka.
In the correctional services category, superintendent of jails Rahul Sreerama and head warder Surya Prakasa Rao Addanki will get the medal for meritorious service.
The state has no awardees in the Home Guard and Civil Defence categories.
The national compilation records 301 Gallantry Medals, 92 President’s Medals for Distinguished Service and 664 Medals for Meritorious Service across police, fire, home guard/civil defence and correctional services.
The recognition comes ahead of Independence Day and honours personnel across ranks from constables and head constables to senior police officers for gallantry, distinguished service and meritorious service.
