Gang Held for Copper Wire Theft, Ganja Sale
The gang was apprehended near the Gangamma temple arch in Ballikurava mandal and formally arrested by Santhamaguluru circle inspector P. Seshagiri Rao.
Nellore:Prakasam district police have arrested a five-member gang allegedly involved in stealing copper from agricultural borewell electric cables and selling ganja to granite workers. Police seized 21.5 kg of copper and 2 kg of ganja from the accused.
The gang was apprehended near the Gangamma temple arch in Ballikurava mandal and formally arrested by Santhamaguluru circle inspector P. Seshagiri Rao.
Police said the accused, who are relatives, stole electric cables from borewells in Ballikurava, Korisapadu and Santhamaguluru mandals during the night. They allegedly burnt the cables to extract copper for sale. During the investigation, police found that the gang had also been procuring ganja from Odisha and selling it to workers in granite factories in the region.
The arrests helped police crack seven theft cases registered at Ballikurava, Korisapadu and Santhamaguluru police stations.
