Vijayawada: Water levels in both of AP’s major rivers – Godavari and Krishna – have started falling on Saturday, giving a much-needed relief to people living in vulnerable low-lying areas along the course of these rivers.

Godavari River had been discharging 9.31 lakh cusecs of water from Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. The discharge is expected to fall further.
Authorities withdrew the first flood warning at the barrage at 7:00 p.m.
However, the impact of floods during the last few days is clearly visible, with thousands of acres of land inundated by the floods.
Krishna River had been discharging 3.92 lakh cusecs of water from Prakasam Barrage at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. However, precautionary measures are continuing downstream of the river course until the water level falls further.
Meanwhile water resources minister Nimmala Ramanaidu assured the people that the NDA coalition government will take permanent measures to stop the inundation problem along the course of the river. He visited the flood hit areas on islet villages in West Godavari district. He walked in the inundated Kanakaya Lanka causeway and inquired from people about their problems.
The minister assured that as a permanent solution, a bridge will be constructed across the causeway at a cost of ₹23 crore for which tenders will be invited soon.
He said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is taking all measures to deal with inundation issues in many areas of the state.
