Family Attacks RTC Bus Staff Over Stoppage

VIJAYAWADA: A family allegedly attacked an APSRTC driver and conductor with sticks and eggs after intercepting a Macharla depot Express bus near Gurazala while it was travelling from Guntur to Macharla.
Police said the Express service stops only at designated bus stops. Some women who had asked the driver to stop at a particular place near Gurazala reportedly told their family members that he had refused and continued driving.
Angered by this, the family members allegedly placed their motorcycles across the road and stopped the bus. When the conductor got down and asked them to remove the bikes, they allegedly attacked him with sticks and eggs. The driver intervened and was also assaulted. Passengers who tried to stop the attack were allegedly beaten, while the attackers also pelted the bus with stones, police said.
Based on a complaint from driver D. Somaiah, Gurazala police registered a case and launched an investigation.
The RTC Karmika Parishad condemned the attack and sought stringent action. Its secretary Ramesh urged the RTC management and government to ensure protection for employees.
