KAKINADA: The Central government has sanctioned ₹4 crore to Kakinada Municipal Corporation to establish food courts under the PM SVANidhi (Prime Minister Street Vendors’ Atma Nirbhar Nidhi) scheme, aimed at providing business opportunities to the poor.

The corporation has selected a site on Wharf Road for the food courts. Employees of the town planning and revenue departments removed encroachments from the area to clear the way for the project.

Corporation commissioner N.V.V. Satyanarayana said Kakinada was the only city in Andhra Pradesh selected for the national initiative under the PM SVANidhi scheme.

Residents welcomed the development and expressed hope that the food courts would provide livelihood opportunities to poor beneficiaries.
