Police recovered 30 printers, three laptops and a motorcycle from his possession: Reports
TIRUPATI: Chittoor police arrested an engineering student allegedly involved in a series of thefts at government secretariats across Chittoor, Tirupati and Annamayya districts and recovered stolen property worth ₹8.10 lakh.
Addressing the media, Chittoor SP Tushar Dudi said the accused, C. Mahesh Babu (22), a native of S.R. Puram mandal, was residing in Tirupati. He was arrested during vehicle checks near Matham Crossroads on the Chittoor–Tirupati road under the supervision of Nagari in-charge DSP J. Rambabu.
Police recovered 30 printers, three laptops and a motorcycle from his possession.
The SP said the accused was found moving suspiciously with a printer and allegedly confessed during questioning to committing thefts at several government secretariats.
According to police, he broke open office doors using a cutter and stole printers, laptops and electronic equipment from secretariats in S.R. Puram, Vedurukuppam, Gudipala, G.D. Nellore, Pakala, Vadamalapeta, M.R. Palli and Piler areas.
The stolen items were allegedly sold through the OLX platform at low prices, while the money was reportedly spent on online betting and personal expenses.
Police said the accused was involved in 18 cases across the three districts. The SP appreciated Karvetinagaram CI Y. Hanumanthappa, S.R. Puram SI V. Suman and other personnel for solving the cases.
