Vijayawada: The government is focusing on uninterrupted irrigation and drinking water supply to the Eleru Ayakattu, water resources minister Nimmala Ramanaidu told the Assembly on Wednesday.
He said 548 operation and maintenance works had been taken up at Rs 25 crore in two years. The government had also spent Rs 1,800 crore on Polavaram Left Canal works, completing critical Pampa, Tandra and Eleru river crossings and 11 highway bridges.
Ramanaidu said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s foresight in constructing the Purushothapatnam Lift Scheme enabled water supply to 53,000 acres under Eleru and 1.48 lakh acres under the Pushkara ayacut despite difficult weather. Currently, 950 cusecs are being supplied, with 2.6 TMC released. Another Rs 15.84 crore operations and maintenance proposal was submitted.
