Eight-Member Motorcycle Theft Gang Held in Markapuram
They later hid the stolen vehicles in Bestavaripeta and Markapuram
TIRUPATI: Markapuram district police arrested an eight-member interstate motorcycle theft gang and recovered 13 stolen motorcycles worth around `17 lakh on Friday.
The accused were identified as Pasupuleti Rasool, 21, Bathula Srihari, 20, Bathula Srinu, 20, Anneboyina Akhil Kumar, 20, Sriram Prasanna Kumar, 22, Dudekula Babu, 37, Juturi Immanuel, 24, and Dudekula Sadiq, 27.
Police said the accused were involved in motorcycle thefts in Kambham, Bestavaripeta and Markapuram in Prakasam district, Kavali Rural in Nellore district, Vetapalem in Bapatla district and Kodandapuram in Jogulamba Gadwal district of Telangana.
The gang was arrested at Y-junction in Kambham while travelling on three motorcycles. Police recovered 13 stolen motorcycles from them.
According to police, the accused targeted parked motorcycles, broke their side locks and started them by connecting wires. They later hid the stolen vehicles in Bestavaripeta and Markapuram.
The thefts took place between February 4 and August 13, police said. SP V. Harshavardhan Raju appreciated the police personnel who cracked the cases and recovered the vehicles.
