Kakinada:People of the East and West Godavari districts celebrated the World Indigenous Peoples’ Day as the Adivasi Utsav with great enthusiasm.

At Kakinada, State Scheduled Tribes Commission’s former chairman Vadithya Sankar Naick participated in the utsav. He requested the government to pay special attention to the development of tribal areas and tribal people, both socially and economically.

He expressed dissatisfaction that even after 78 years of Independence, lives of many tribal people in the agency areas are pitiable.

Those present on the occasion included Tribal People’s Union state president K. Raju Nayak, Tribal Youth president Hanumanthu Nayak, Tribal Students’ Union state president Lankala Madhu Kumar, apart from Varahalu Shukla, Sai Praveen and Kalyan.

Speaking on the occasion in East Godavari district, joint collector Chinna Ramudu said tribal people are still backward in many fields. It is only through education that they can protect their rights, he stated.

Tribal officer B. Shahanka presided over the event attended, among others, by additional SP A.V. Subba Raju.
