ANANTAPUR: The Satya Sai district police have made arrangements to launch night patrolling with drones across all main towns in the district from January 1.

Stating this on Friday, SP Satish Kumar noted that modern technology played a crucial role in maintaining law and order. He distributed two night vision drones and three day-vision drones, worth approximately Rs 24 lakh to the sub division officers and inspectors of Puttaparthi, Hindupur, Madakasira, Puttaparthi Urban, Puttaparthi Rural, and Nallamada Circles at an event the district police held in Puttaparthi.

The SP said, “Drones are highly useful in preventing crime and maintaining law and order. Along with CCTV cameras, the use of night-vision and day-vision drones will help in controlling crimes and in quickly identifying offenders by recording visuals at the crime scenes.”

He said night-vision drones have been deployed in Hindupur, Madakasira, Kadiri, Dharmavaram, and Penukonda. From January 1, drone patrolling would be carried out day and night.

The usage of drones was already yielding good results in hills and deep forest areas to curb illicit activities. Drones, the SP said, would be useful in controlling thefts. Surveillance through drones would continue to curb anti-social activities such as consumption of alcohol in public places, use of ganja, and gambling.

Special steps are being taken to prevent burglaries, using night-vision drones, he said.

About Vaikuntha Ekadashi on Dec 30, the SP said tight security has been ensured at prominent temples, keeping in view the large influx of devotees. A list of privately constructed temples across the district has been prepared. Crowd movement is being monitored through CCTV cameras to prevent incidents.

The police advised the public to install CCTV cameras at their residences and business establishments.
