Medical experts from New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, and Ahmedabad participated
Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam hosted the national medical education conference ‘Gastro Update’ – 4th edition on Sunday, bringing together leading gastroenterologists, physicians, postgraduate students, and healthcare professionals from across India. Organised jointly by the Institute of Liver and Gastro Sciences at KIMS Hospitals, Seethammadhara; the Association of Physicians of India (API); the Indian Medical Association (IMA); and the Vizag Gut Club, the event focused on the rising incidence of gastrointestinal and liver diseases in the country.
Dr Chalapathi Rao Achanta, senior consultant gastroenterologist and chairman of the organising committee, highlighted that lifestyle changes are contributing to the increase in such disorders. He noted the importance of academic discussions on complex cases, which enhance diagnostic skills and improve patient care. Chalapathi Rao noted that conferences like these are particularly valuable for young doctors, offering exposure to emerging technologies and treatment modalities.
Medical experts from New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, and Ahmedabad participated, deliberating on challenging topics such as dysphagia, recurrent jaundice, chronic diarrhoea, liver cancers, severe pancreatitis, and gastrointestinal bleeding. Interactive case-based sessions analysing real patient scenarios were a highlight, offering practical advice on modern diagnostic approaches.
Dr Abhinay, CEO of KIMS Group of Hospitals, and Dr Nagesh, regional CEO, expressed gratitude to the faculty and delegates, stating that the overwhelming response reaffirmed Visakhapatnam’s growing role as a hub for medical education, research, and advanced training in gastroenterology and hepatology.
