Despite AP-Wide Strike, High-Value Registrations Keep Tirupati District Revenue Steady

High-value property transactions have helped the Registration department maintain its revenue in Tirupati district, despite a state-wide pen-down protest by document writers throughout the state.

Officials maintain that registration services are continuing without any disruption in Tirupati district.

Though they concede that the number of property registrations in the district have declined, around 60 property documents have been registered on Monday, generating nearly ₹90 lakh in revenue. On a normal working day, Tirupati district records more than 200 registrations and collects around ₹1 crore through stamp duty and registration fees.

Officials said Tuesday recorded fewer registrations than Monday, but noted that registrations are generally lower on Tuesdays as many people avoid property transactions on that day. They maintain that the ongoing protest has not affected registration services.

Tirupati district registrar G. Sreeram Kumar said registration of several high-value properties has helped offset the decline in the number of transactions. He said the department is continuing to provide services despite the agitation. He advised the public to approach the Registration department directly if they faced any issues.

The document writers have called for a state-wide protest against G.O. 396, which proposes the establishment of Registration Service Centres under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The proposed centres would provide document preparation, data entry, and registration services under one roof. This will simplify the registration process and improve transparency.

The Document Writers' Association has opposed the proposal. It contends that these centres would reduce their role in the registration process, affecting the livelihoods of thousands of document writers.

Further, the association expressed concern over entrusting property records and personal information to private agencies. The protest is scheduled to continue until July 31.

Defending the reform, the Registration department said the proposed Registration Service Centres would function on the lines of Passport Seva Kendras by providing single-window registration services.

Registrar Sreeram Kumar underlined that the system would reduce procedural delays, minimise loopholes, curb opportunities for corruption, and make property registration more convenient for the public.
