Nellore: Dedicated commission chairman Rajeev Ranjan Mishra on Thursday said the commission would conduct a comprehensive study of the social, economic, educational and political status of Backward Classes (BCs) and submit a detailed report to the Andhra Pradesh government.
During a review meeting with district officials at the collectorate in Nellore, Mishra, who heads the commission constituted to determine BC reservations in local body elections, reviewed data relating to BC population, socio-economic conditions and representation in local institutions. He directed officials to compile and furnish all relevant statistics, records and information to the Commission.
Accompanied by district collector Himanshu Shukla, the chairman also interacted with representatives of various BC associations and sought their views, suggestions and concerns. Leaders of BC organisations submitted memoranda on issues related to reservations and community welfare.
Mishra said the commission would examine the representations and suggestions received from the public and BC organisations regarding reservations in rural and urban local body elections before preparing a comprehensive report for submission to the state government.
District revenue officer Vijay Kumar, municipal commissioner Y.O. Nandan, BC welfare officer Venkata Lakshmamma, ZP CEO Sridhar Reddy, DPO Vasumathi, DEO R. Balaji Rao and other district officials attended the meeting.
