Vijayawada: Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad on Saturday directed district collectors and superintendents of police to make all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of NEET (UG)-2026 and prevent any untoward incidents.

The Chief Secretary held a virtual review meeting with district collectors and SPs and said 65,790 candidates would appear for the examination at 185 centres across the state. He instructed officials to establish control rooms in every district and closely monitor the conduct of the examination.

Sai Prasad said nearly 1,500 police personnel and central forces had been deployed to provide security at examination centres. He noted that question papers would be transported under tight security and directed district authorities to ensure the safe handling and storage of answer scripts in strong rooms after the examination.

The Chief Secretary said the examination would be held on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. He directed officials to enforce restrictions around examination centres, suspend internet services in the vicinity where required, and ensure strict compliance with security protocols. Candidates with disabilities would be provided an additional hour to complete the examination.

He also called for heightened surveillance of photocopy centres, cyber cafés and coaching institutes, and directed officials to ensure the availability of drinking water, ORS packets and first-aid facilities at examination centres.

Sai Prasad instructed district collectors and SPs to take immediate action against rumours on social media regarding question paper leaks. He also directed officials to remain alert to impersonation attempts using fake identity cards or photographs and to register cases against offenders and investigate such incidents promptly.
