CM Naidu Stresses Unity of Telugu States for Progress

Naidu recalled that NTR had launched several irrigation projects in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has called for unity among people who speak the Telugu language to ensure that Telugu race becomes Number One in the world.

Addressing the Third World Telugu Conference organised under the aegis of Andhra Saraswatha Parishath in Guntur on Monday, the Chief Minister said though Telugu people have two states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, their language is common.
“Mother tongue is equivalent to mother. Those who pursue education in their own mother tongue will fare well in their life. Several people living in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Odisha and West Bengal read Telugu. After Hindi, Telugu is spoken in many states in the country. Though English is needed, forgetting our mother tongue is like forgetting our own selves,” Naidu maintained.
He explained, “I am indebted to the Telugu race. I will make all efforts to develop it. We, the Telugu people, are united. We used IT together at the right time. We are now living in two states. We are successful globally in creating wealth for both the Telugu states. Son of the Telugu soil as the then prime minister of India P.V. Narasimha Rao introduced economic reforms for the development of the country. I am grateful to the Telugu people who had given me the opportunity to serve as a CM in the united Andhra Pradesh for nine years and 10 years as the leader of the Opposition. They have again given me the opportunity to serve as CM in the aftermath of bifurcation of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.”
The AP Chief Minister underlined the importance of Telugus living in both AP and Telangana to be united and be in harmony once again. He pointed out that former chief minister late N.T. Rama Rao launched several irrigation projects on Krishna River during his regime in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, including the Srisailam Left Bank and Srisailam Right Bank canals. Naidu said when he became the CM, he completed the Kalvakurthi lift irrigation scheme, and Nettempadu and Bhima lift irrigation projects.
He said that on Godavari River, Ali Sagar and Devadula lift projects had been taken up for Telangana. He maintained that they did not raise any objection even when Telangana utilised water of Godavari River and took up Kaleswaram project.
Focussing his attention on Telugu again, Naidu said even as there are hundreds of languages in the country, only six languages have got the status of classical language, Telugu being one of them. He recalled the great stalwarts who promoted Telugu language in a big way.Earlier, the AP Chief Minister, along with Goa Governor P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, paid floral tributes to NTR by garlanding Rama Rao statue and unveiled a special cover prepared by the Indian Postal department in this regard.Among those present included Assembly Speaker Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu and Union Rural Development minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar.
