Former union minister M.M. Pallam Raju and former Lok Sabha member G.V. Harsha Kumar have urged Congress leaders and workers to contest all seats in the upcoming local body elections and file their nominations by Saturday.

They addressed a meeting of party constituency and mandal in-charges and cadres at the Kakinada District Congress Committee office on Friday. The meeting was chaired by DCC president Madepalli Satyananda Rao.

Pallam Raju asked party workers to highlight the schemes implemented during the Congress regime and said people were facing several difficulties under the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. He urged the party to field candidates for all available positions.

Harsha Kumar, who is also the party's election observer, alleged that the NDA government was creating anarchy in the country and claimed that 13 crore votes had been deleted from electoral rolls in the name of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). He demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

He also alleged that votes cast for the alliance parties or the YSR Congress would ultimately benefit the BJP. Citing rising prices of essential commodities, including rice and cooking oil, he said people were facing increasing hardships.

Harsha Kumar urged party workers to take the Congress message directly to the people and ensure that nominations were filed for all local body constituencies by Saturday.

Congress leaders Mallipudi Rambabu, Akula Lalitha, Chekka Nookaraju, Malakala Suribabu and Pilli Chinna were among those present.
