Collectors Told to Work for a 100% Pass Rate in Schools

Vijayawada:Education Minister Nara Lokesh has directed district collectors to prepare and implement action plans to achieve 100 per cent pass in schools, with special focus on improving the pass percentages in board examinations.

During the collectors’ conference, Lokesh reviewed various issues concerning the education department and stressed the need for continuous field-level monitoring to ensure better quality education in government schools. He also called for equal attention to improving educational standards and strengthening school infrastructure.

Officials, he said, must ensure that school buildings are structurally sound and the prescribed quality standards are strictly followed in all construction works.

Lokesh said the government would link ITIs and polytechnic colleges with industries so that students could acquire skills required by employers. Skill development was being given priority to ensure that youths secured employment after completing their education.

The minister said the Naipunya web portal was being used to provide youngsters with employment opportunities and access to necessary skill tools. The government aimed to widen employment opportunities by improving coordination among educational institutions, industries and youths.

The education department, he said, is focusing not only on improving literacy but also on digital and financial literacy. Measures were being taken to equip students with skills suited to the rapidly changing technology.

“Schools are also imparting training in precautions and self-protection during natural disasters,” he said and stressed the need to update the curriculum in line with contemporary requirements. A roadmap for curriculum reforms had already been prepared. Necessary changes were being introduced to strengthen students’ future-ready skills, he added.
