Coalition Govt Ignored Farmers, Rural Development: Kakani

Nellore: Former minister and YSRC district president Kakani Govardhan Reddy on Monday alleged that the coalition government had neglected farmers’ welfare and rural development in the State.

During his visit to Akkampeta village in Manubolu mandal, Govardhan Reddy said farmers were facing difficulties due to deficient rainfall and lack of irrigation and drinking water, and alleged that the government had failed to provide timely assistance. He also alleged that drought mandals were announced only after pressure from former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Govardhan Reddy alleged that village development had come to a standstill under the present government. He contrasted this with the previous YSRC government, during which village secretariats, Rythu Bharosa Kendras and village health clinics were established.

He also alleged that the police were adopting a partisan approach by booking cases against ordinary people and YSRC supporters for transporting soil for house construction while extending cooperation to ruling-party leaders.

Targeting former minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy, Govardhan Reddy alleged that YSRC workers were being subjected to cases and other forms of harassment. He said political power was not permanent and urged officials to function according to law.

Earlier, Govardhan Reddy paid his respects to the mortal remains of senior YSRC leader Poondla Shankar Reddy of Akkampeta, who died recently, and consoled his family members.
