Vijayawada:Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to incorporate the concept of "Amaravati in Nature" with a view to transforming the capital into a model green city.

During a review meeting on the beautification and the "Green-Blue Master Plan" held at the Secretariat in Velagapudi on Thursday, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of creating a pleasant environment in the capital.

Naidu articulated his vision of Amaravati to be developed as the largest green space city, prioritising local flora and medicinal plants within its greening plans. Officials, he said, must enhance greenery along major trunk roads, connecting access roads and buffer zones.

Naidu also stressed the need to develop parks of international standard and green areas, ensuring that the entire capital region evolved into a biodiversity hotspot, by also planting medicinal plants.

He said, “In addition to Bengaluru city, various places including Singapore should be examined to make Amaravati beautiful. Amaravati should be a place where medicinal plants, rare and endangered species of plants and trees should be preserved. Suggestions and advice should be taken from the famous yoga guru Baba Ram Dev to grow medicinal plants.”

Promote Kadiyam, which is famous for its nurseries in AP, the CM said.

Naidu went on, “Take steps to grow indigenous plant species found in various areas from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari in Amaravati. This entire green area should control pollution and protect the health of the people.”

He suggested that the cooperation of local universities and students should also be taken in the Amaravati beautification plan. “Amaravati should be a historical city. The cultural traditions should be preserved and the parks developed in a modern way.”

The capital, he said, should also have high-quality and accessible housing construction.

“Trees and parks should be built near housing projects in the capital on the lines of the Bidadari Housing Project in Singapore. The Bidadari Estate has been built in an area of 250 acres to accommodate 10,000 people.”

Naidu said, “The names of various countries should be given to the various parks built in the capital. There should be flower species that grow in those countries. The names of the main roads should be given in a way that they reflect nature.”

The CM said the canal systems including Kondaveeti Vagu and Palavagu in Amaravati should be planned to make them look very beautiful. He wanted to change the Krishna shore to have a pleasant atmosphere on both sides. Cycling tracks, he said, should be set up on both sides of the roads.

The Amaravati Development Corporation officials explained to the CM that the Sakhamuru reservoir was being set up in 50 acres. Naidu suggested that trees should be planted around the lake to provide refreshment along with greenery.

Officials said the six islands upstream of the Prakasam barrage in the Krishna river would also be beautified and riverfronts will be set up. The Chief Minister made it clear that there should be no problem with the environment anywhere.

“The area where Undavalli hill is located is in the middle of the city. Plants should be set up so that it looks like a beautiful forest with flowers from anywhere,” he said.
