Chittoor and Tirupati administrations are preparing polling stations, ballot boxes, staff and security arrangements ahead of the expected local body election notification.
The district administrations of Chittoor and Tirupati have stepped up preparations for local body elections, with officials arranging polling material, ballot boxes, polling stations and staff ahead of the expected election notification.
In Chittoor district, the Chittoor municipal corporation and the municipalities of Kuppam, Palamaner and Nagari are likely to have polls in the first phase. Following delimitation, the CMC will have 60 divisions against the existing 50, with elections to all divisions scheduled in a single phase.
The district has 27 mandals, 622 gram panchayats and 5,914 wards. Elections will be held for 27 Zilla Parishad territorial constituency (ZPTC) and 370 Mandal Parishad territorial constituency (MPTC) seats. The district has 10,26,821 voters and 5,926 polling stations.
Officials have procured 20 tonnes of paper for the ZP elections and estimated a similar requirement for the panchayat polls. They are preparing 3,250 ballot boxes for ZP elections and 8,150 for panchayat elections. Five types of ballot papers will be printed for municipal, Zilla Parishad and gram panchayat elections.
Raw materials have arrived, and officials are in talks with two printing establishments.
In Tirupati district, arrangements are under way for elections to 35 ZPTC and 444 MPTC seats across 35 mandals. The district has 791 gram panchayats and 12,54,371 voters, including 6,10,515 men, 6,43,752 women and 104 voters from other categories.
The administration has identified 1,641 polling stations and arranged 3,282 ballot boxes. Polling stations in 19 mandals have been identified as sensitive, prompting plans for additional security.
The ZP office has been allotted space at the Tirupati collectorate to coordinate election work. Sixty two employees transferred from the erstwhile combined district have been assigned election duties. Officials in both districts are assessing staff requirements and planning training for polling personnel.
