Anantapur: The revered Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), custodian of one of the holiest temples in the world, has become embroiled in governance failure, prompting unprecedented intervention by the Central Government. Two recent tragic incidents—a stampede in Tirupati during the issuance of tokens for Vykunta Dwara darshana on January 8 and a fire at a laddu counter on January 13—have cast a shadow over TTD's management, raising serious concerns about its priorities.
Recognising the gravity of the situation, the ministry of home affairs (MHA) has intervened to address lapses in crowd control and security arrangements. Additional Secretary (Disaster Management) at the MHA Sanjeev Kumar Jindal will conduct a crucial review meeting with TTD management on January 20. Jindal is scheduled to arrive in Tirupati at 8 PM on January 19 aboard the MGR Chennai Central Vande Bharat Express, a note revealed.
This intervention highlights the growing trend of political interference, which has overshadowed the sacred duty of governance at TTD. Instead of prioritising the safety and well-being of millions of devotees, the management has seemingly become a battleground for political agendas over the years.
