VIJAYAWADA: State BJP in-charge Arvind Singh Bhadoria and co-in-charge Vanathi Srinivasan have called for promotion of Swadeshi products in a big way.

Taking part in ‘Khadi Santha’ held here on Friday, Aravind Singh recalled the history of India for its self-sufficiency as it used to make its own clothes, food and other products and also used to export these to the world. However, during British rule, native industries were badly affected and raw materials like cotton used to be shipped to Britain from India and finished products like clothes reached the Indian markets, he noted.

He recalled the Prime Minister’s call for promotion of ‘Local for Vocal’ so that Swadeshi products and local manufactures are given priority. He said Khadi products and sales have increased in a big way and called upon the people to use Swadeshi products to promote manufacture of indigenous products in the country.

AP BJP co-in-charge Vanathi Srinivasan gave credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing local artists to the world by presenting gifts made of Indian art and handloom garments to the prominent foreign visitors to the country. She observed that AP was having a rich cultural heritage and skilled artists and workers.

She claimed that the double engine government would help promote handloom and handicrafts and local products in a big way. The BJP, she said, is organising ‘Khadi Santha’ in several cities and towns in the state on the eve of Gandhi Jayanthi celebrations to promote Swadeshi concept among the people.

Vanathi Srinivasan called upon the people to purchase 30 per cent of their clothes from handlooms.
