Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav on Sunday accused the YSR Congress of attempting to disrupt law and order during the urban local body elections, alleging that the party was unable to win people’s support.

Satya Kumar, along with BJP state president P.V.N. Madhav, accompanied BJP mayoral candidate Ajesh Babu Yadav during the filing of his nomination for the Anantapur Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections. Ajesh Babu, the AP BJP Yuva Morcha vice-president, was selected after a series of reviews by the party high command.

The nomination process was attended by TD leaders, including MP Ambica Lakshmi Narayana and MLA D. Prasad, and Jana Sena leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister alleged that the YSRC was planning to join hands with the Congress and attempting to disturb law and order after failing to field candidates in several areas. He said the BJP leadership was committed to developing Anantapur, where long-pending issues, including underground drainage, remained unresolved.

Madhav said the Centre was committed to supporting development works in Anantapur and noted that the mayor’s post had been allotted to the BJP for the first time.

Meanwhile, YSRC candidate E. Ramesh Gowd filed his nomination for the mayor’s post, while former municipal chairman Noor Mohammad entered the fray as an independent.

Official sources said 29 nominations, including those filed by independents, were received for the mayor’s post on Sunday, the last day of nominations. Around 600 nominations were also received for corporator posts across the corporation’s 62 divisions.
