Awareness Yatra Launched to Save Gundlakamma River
Trust chairman Dasari Srinivasulu said the yatra will begin from the river’s origin in the Nallamala forests and cover nearly 280 km along its course, passing through villages and towns dependent on the river.
Nellore:The Hindu Dharma Parirakshana Trust has launched the “Gundlakamma Dharma Rakshana Chetanya Yatra” to create awareness about the protection and rejuvenation of the Gundlakamma River amid concerns over pollution, illegal encroachments, sand mining and ecological degradation.
Trust chairman Dasari Srinivasulu said the yatra will begin from the river’s origin in the Nallamala forests and cover nearly 280 km along its course, passing through villages and towns dependent on the river.
The campaign will include tree plantation, public meetings and interactions with farmers, youth, women, environmentalists and local communities. Organisers aim to transform river conservation into a people’s movement and seek support for declaring the Gundlakamma a protected natural heritage asset.
The Trust urged the government to curb pollution, remove encroachments, prevent illegal mining and implement a comprehensive conservation plan to preserve the river for future generations.
