Amaravati: APSRTC's 'Stree Shakti'scheme, which provides free bus travel for women on select services, has reached a major milestone of facilitating over 100 crore trips and saving women an estimated Rs 3,500 in travel costs.

Launched by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on August 15, 2025, 'Stree Shakti' (women's power) is witnessing a daily average ridership of 24 lakh, said an official press release from APSRTC on Tuesday.

"As of October 5, 2026, the number of free journeys undertaken by women under the scheme (Stree Shakti) has crossed the historic milestone of 100 crore. At present, an average of around 24 lakh women passengers are travelling free of cost every day under the scheme," it said.
The saving in travel expenditure has not only reduced the financial burden of women and their families, but also made it easier for them to travel for employment, education, medical needs, self-employment, market-related activities and other day-to-day requirements, said the press release.
The state government is paying Rs 160 crore per month to Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) for implementing the free bus ride scheme for women and a total of Rs 2,160 has been released up to August 2026.
APSRTC chairman K Narayana Rao said that the corporation is committed to continuing the 'Stree Shakti' scheme in an even more effective manner with focus on women's welfare, economic empowerment and access to affordable public transport, the press added.
