APPCB Orders Shut Tyre Pyrolysis Unit at Paritala

Vijayawada:Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) has ordered stoppage of production at a tyre pyrolysis unit at Paritala in NTR district.
Board chairman Dr. P. Krishnaiah inspected the unit on Sunday and found serious violations during his surprise inspection. The unit premises had been unhygienic, with used tyres, waste, sludge, and other refuse scattered around. Its effluent treatment plant had also not been functioning properly.
The APPCB chairman took serious exception to burning of excess gas generated during pyrolysis at ground level, when the norm is to burn the flare gas through a 30-metre-high stack.
Dr. Krishnaiah went on to order inspection of all tyre pyrolysis units in the state, as these units fall under the Red Category, and submit their reports by October 7 with photographs, videos, and ETP discharge test reports.
