APPCB Expands Industrial Green Cover
APPCB chairman Dr P. Krishnaiah said industrial growth must go hand in hand with environmental protection, stressing the need to expand green belts and minimise pollution.
Vijayawada:The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) has facilitated the development of an additional 2,234.15 acres of green cover in industrial areas during 2026, taking the total to 27,384.34 acres across 2,913 industries in the state.
APPCB chairman Dr P. Krishnaiah said industrial growth must go hand in hand with environmental protection, stressing the need to expand green belts and minimise pollution. “Industries are vital to economic development, but their operations must not adversely affect the environment. Sustainable growth requires compliance with standards, effective pollution control and adequate greenery,” he said.
The APPCB is promoting green belts in line with guidelines of the Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change and the clearance conditions applicable to individual industries. Green cover requirements depend on the industry’s category, location, pollution potential and regulatory norms.
Greenery helps absorb carbon dioxide, reduce dust dispersion and maintain ecological balance. Dr Krishnaiah emphasised that industries must ensure sapling survival, maintain planted trees, select species suited to local climatic conditions and utilise available space effectively. He urged industries and departments concerned to coordinate efforts to expand greenery and strengthen environmental protection.
