AP Undertaking Transmission Projects Worth Over Rs 12,000 Crore
Projects aim to strengthen network, meet rising demand, ensure reliable electricity.
Vijayawada: The AP TRANSCO is undertaking transmission projects worth over Rs 12,000 crore. This is part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the power transmission network, meet the rising electricity demand and ensure a reliable and uninterrupted power supply to consumers.
This was announced here on Thursday by Chief Secretary K Vijayanand, who is also in charge of the power department.
The fund allotments thereof include Rs 155.04 crore for seven recently commissioned projects, Rs 8,131 crore for 62 ongoing works, Rs 363.13 crore for newly awarded projects, and Rs 3,614 crore for 31 upcoming works under various government schemes.
Vijayanand conducted a review of the transmission infrastructure projects being implemented across key project zones of Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Kadapa, with the state power transmission company JMD A Kirthi Chekuri, grid director AKV Bhaskar, technical director Venkateswara Rao, finance director Ramana Murthy and others, at the state secretariat.
He said, “Seven transmission projects, including the bus reactor for reactive power management, the 220KV DC line from 220KV Gunadala substation to 220KV Nunna substation with Monopoles and other 220kV lines valued at Rs 155.04 crore have been commissioned in the past two months. These works enhance system capacity for power evacuation and help meet the rising energy demand in these regions.”
The CS said 62 transmission projects, including one for augmentation of ICT capacity, new substations and lines, worth Rs 8131 crore, were now under various stages of execution.
These include works such as the diversion of 400kV and 220kV lines within the APCRDA region.
“AP TRANSCO has recently placed equipment orders for five transmission projects that would cost Rs 363.13 crore. Additionally, tenders are being floated for 31 works worth Rs 3614 crore under various governmental initiatives,” he said.
Vijayanand directed officials to undertake daily monitoring of critical projects at the field level and submit weekly progress reports. Special focus would be given to completing projects in the AP CRDA region, considering its strategic importance to the state’s development.
He stressed that third-party quality checks and regular audits should be conducted to ensure that all construction works adhered to the highest standards and safety norms.
