VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh government will introduce an Artificial Intelligence-based application to monitor key health parameters of newborn babies, including weight, height, and head and chest circumference.

Health minister Satya Kumar Yadav said on Saturday that the initiative would be implemented under a memorandum of understanding between the state health department and Wadhwani AI.

As part of the programme, the department will integrate the existing application used by frontline health workers, including ASHA workers, with the ‘Shishu Maapan’ platform to create a database covering nearly 1,000 newborns and their health indicators.

The minister said health personnel are being trained to use the AI-based application, which will enable systematic monitoring of newborn health. He noted that the technology-driven approach would replace the conventional method of assessing infants using weighing machines, infantometers and measuring tapes.
