VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh government is strengthening secondary hospitals by providing modern medical equipment to improve diagnosis, treatment and surgical care, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said on Saturday.

He said the NDA government was equipping hospitals with facilities such as tele-radiology, CT scan, TIFFA scan, colour Doppler ultrasound, laparoscopy equipment, neonatal care facilities and laboratory infrastructure.

“By providing the necessary medical equipment at the secondary hospitals, the patients will get quick medical care and help early recovery and also get relief from spending more money for varied medical tests as they are providing such equipment,” the minister said.

Satya Kumar said the government had spent `72.81 crore on procuring medical equipment during the last two years, compared to `42 crore spent during the previous five-year YSRC government.

He said the number of diagnostic tests conducted in government laboratories had been increasing every year and tele-radiology services had been expanded to nearly all government hospitals in the state.

The minister said CT scan facilities would be introduced through the public-private partnership model at district hospitals in Tenali, Atmakur, Hindupur and Tanuku. He added that the government was supplying 403 infant warmers for newborn care, facilitating TIFFA scans for 1,500 pregnant women, and providing BERA equipment for hearing assessment, laparoscopy equipment and 177 mortuary freezer chambers in secondary hospitals across the state.
