Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh is expected to witness a mix of thunderstorms and intense heat on Monday, according to the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) managing director Prakhar Jain.

Elaborating, he explained that a trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over Vidarbha across north coastal Andhra Pradesh and the adjoining west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal is influencing the weather over Andhra Pradesh.
Under the impact of the cyclonic circulation, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely in Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, and Chittoor districts on Monday. Scattered light rain with thunderstorms is also expected in several other districts.
APSDMA has advised people to avoid taking shelter under trees, electric poles and hoardings during the thunderstorms. Farmers and shepherds have been asked to remain alert and move to safer locations once they spot dark clouds and witness lightning and thunder.
However, despite the possibility of rain in some parts of AP, high temperatures are expected to continue across the state.
Temperatures ranging between 42°C and 44°C are likely in parts of Polavaram, Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Markapuram, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, and Nellore districts. Temperatures between 40°C and 42°C are expected in parts of Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, East Godavari, West Godavari, Nandyal, YSR Kadapa, and Tirupati districts.
The highest temperature recorded on Sunday is 44.3°C at Atchampet (Palnadu district), followed by Kavali (Nellore) 43.9°C, Uyyuru (Krishna) and Nandigama (NTR) 43.7°C, Kopperapadu (Prakasam), 43.6°C, Kukunoor (Eluru), Kunavaram (Polavaram) and Nandanamarella (Markapuram) 43.4°C, Doravarisatram (Tirupati), 43.3°C, Karamchedu (Bapatla) 43.0°C, and Mangalagiri (Guntur) 42.7°C.
Authorities have asked residents to take precautions against the heat. They must also remain vigilant due to the possibility of sudden thunderstorms and lightning.
