Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has issued a government order for the creation of a new Polavaram district, with Rampachodavavaram as its headquarters, as part of the ongoing reorganisation of districts in the State.
Revenue (Lands-IV) department special chief secretary G. Sai Prasad issued G.O. Ms. No. 517 on Tuesday, notifying the formation of the new district with effect from December 31.
The Polavaram district will comprise 12 mandals. Of these, eight mandals are drawn from the erstwhile Rampachodavaram Revenue Division — Rampachodavaram, Devipatnam, Y. Ramavaram, Gutheredu, Addateegala, Gangavaram, Maredumilli and Rajavommangi.
The remaining four mandals — Yetapaka, Chinturu, Kunavaram and Vara Ramachandrapuram — have been taken from the Chinturu Revenue Division.
All the 12 mandals were earlier part of the Alluri Sitharama Raju district.
