AP Hikes Medicos' Stipend
Increase by 10% to medical interns, 5% to PGs, Super Speciality, MDS, DNB students from Jan. 1: Reports
VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh government has enhanced the stipend to the medical students including interns (house surgeons), post graduates and those pursuing super speciality, MDS and DNB in government and dental colleges in the state.
Health secretary G. Veerapandian issued GO Ms 141 to this effect here on Monday.
Stipend has been enhanced by 10 per cent from the existing stipend to interns (MBBS and BDS); by five per cent to postgraduates (degree and diploma), super speciality PGs, MDS and DNB students learning modern medicines in government and dental colleges in the state with effect from 01-01-2026.
Later, there will be an annual enhancement of stipend by 3.5 per cent for all the categories with effect from 01-01-2027. The same annual enhancement shall continue thereafter.
The proposed enhancement entails an additional financial commitment of nearly ₹34.08 crore per annum over and above the existing expenditure on stipend.
The revised stipend for medical students is as follows:
House Surgeons (MBBS/BDS)-₹28,497 from ₹25,905; PG Degree: 1st year-₹63,864 from ₹60,823; 2nd year- ₹64,604 from ₹61,528; 3rd year-₹68,005 from ₹64,767.
For PG Diploma: 1st year-₹63,864 from ₹ 60,823 and 2nd year-₹64,604 from ₹61,528. For Super Speciality: 1st year-₹84,525 from ₹80,500; 2nd year-₹86,940 from ₹82,800 and 3rd year-₹89,355 from ₹85,100.
For MDS Course:1st year-₹63,862 from ₹60,823; 2nd year-₹64,604 from ₹61,528 and 3rd year-₹68,005 from ₹64,767. For DNB:1st year-₹63,864 from ₹60,823; 2nd year-₹64,604 from ₹61,528.
For 3rd year-₹68,005 from ₹64,767.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh junior doctors association disagreed with the stipend revision by claiming that the government took the decision without reaching an agreement or obtaining APJUDA’s acceptance with regard to the final percentage and terms of revision.
Moreover, the APJUDA served a legal notice on health principal secretary and others to comply with the directions issued by the High Court in WP (PIL) No 193 of 2026 dated 25-08-2026 by considering all the representations submitted by the APJUDA for enhancement of stipend.
