Vijayawada: The AP High Court struck down two government orders providing 34 per cent reservation for BCs, stating that the total reservations should not exceed 50 per cent.
The court directed the state government and the State Election Commission to initiate the election process within six weeks.
The High Court had already completed hearings on petitions related to the Gram Panchayat and urban local body elections and reserved its judgments. It has now issued fresh orders on those petitions.
