KURNOOL: With just days to go for the rescheduled National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) examination on Sunday, June 21, officials across Andhra Pradesh are grappling with the responsibility of ensuring a leak-proof conduct of the test.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) had originally conducted the NEET test on May 3, 2026. It had been cancelled following allegations of the question paper getting leaked. The re-examination is now scheduled for Sunday, triggering anxiety among both the authorities and candidates over something going wrong.
Over 60,000 students from Andhra Pradesh are set to appear for the exam again, which will be conducted across approximately 140 centres in the state.
Officials admit that the earlier controversy has heightened concerns. “Given that the exam had been cancelled once due to a leak, we are leaving no room for error this time. All precautionary measures are being strictly enforced,” a senior official said.
District collectors and police officials have been holding a series of review meetings over the past few days. Inspections at examination centres have been intensified. Additional police personnel have been deployed to maintain strict vigilance.
Kadapa district collector Dr. Cherukuri Sridhar stated, “We are committed to conducting the NEET examination in a completely transparent manner. All necessary steps are being taken to prevent any untoward incidents.”
Police authorities have imposed Section 144 around examination centres to prevent any gathering. “No unauthorised persons will be allowed near the centres until the exam concludes. Candidates are strictly prohibited from carrying electronic gadgets, including digital watches,” a senior police officer clarified. Kurnool SP S. Vikrant Patil said, “Special security arrangements have been made at all centres. Any violation of rules will invite stringent action.”
The central government has taken additional steps to curb any malpractice. Authorities indicate that certain digital platforms, including Telegram, have been temporarily restricted until June 22 to prevent the spread of leaked content. “These measures are precautionary and aimed at ensuring the integrity of the examination process,” an official stated.
Authorities in AP are making efforts to support candidates during the re-exam. APSRTC will be running free bus services to help students reach their examination centres on time.
