Andhra Pradesh: 3 Revenue Officials Suspended Over Flood Duty Lapses

VISAKHAPATNAM: Vizianagaram district collector S. Ramsunder Reddy has suspended three revenue officials for alleged negligence of duty during the recent heavy rains and flooding in the district.
As part of flood preparedness measures, the collector had directed officials to remain on high alert and ensure that control rooms operated round the clock. However, Wangara tahsildar (FAC) P. Rama Rao, Sangam Grade-I VRO U. Ramachandra Rao and Wangara Village Revenue Assistant K. Uday Kiran reportedly failed to perform their assigned duties.
According to the district administration, the tahsildar did not respond to calls from district authorities during the emergency, provide timely updates on the situation or take prompt action after road damage was reported near Arasada village.
The VRO was reportedly absent from the control room, while the VRA also failed to report for assigned control room duty.
The three officials were suspended under Rule 8(1) of the Andhra Pradesh Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1991, pending further proceedings.
District authorities said the action was aimed at enforcing accountability and ensuring effective disaster management during emergencies.
