All In The Family, No Scope For Outsiders?
Political families are prominent in Andhra Pradesh’s local body elections, with relatives of Assembly Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu and a YSRC father-daughter duo filing nominations.
Politics and the urge to have power have drawn families into the fray in these local body elections. Assembly Speaker Ayyanna Patrudu takes the biggest piece of cake. He holds the coveted post of the Speaker in AP, his son Vijay has entered the Rajya Sabha recently; his wife, Chintakalaya Padmavathy, has filed papers for the post of municipal chairperson, and his daughter-in-law, wife of second son Rajesh, submitted her nomination for the councillor post. Rajesh is the one who holds no post currently. But the talk around is he would be contesting for the Narsipatnam Assembly for the 2029 elections. Ayyanna Patrudu has already announced that he would quit politics after this term, making it easy for Rajesh.
On the other hand, Ayyanna’s younger brother Chintakayala Sansyasi Patrudu’s wife, Anitha, is pitted against Padmavathy for the Narsipatnam municipal chairperson post.
The talk on the Ayyanna family grabbing all kinds of political posts is going round the Narsipatnam town and surroundings.
In Visakhapatnam city, a father and daughter filed papers for ward member posts on Saturday, representing YSRC. Father Pothina Hanumantha Rao filed for ward 17, while daughter Jahnavi filed for ward 7.
