ULB Poll Campaign Starting Today
Alliance Leaders Gear Up for Civic Polls, Confident of Wins in Amalapuram, Nidadavole and Narsapur
Kakinada: With the polling date approaching fast, candidates are set to start their campaign on the eve of Vijaya Dasami on Tuesday.
Some ward members have informally started the campaign, but they would officially launch themselves on the campaign scene from Tuesday after taking blessings from religious deities.
After the completion of scrutiny of the nominations, the chairperson candidates of various municipalities called on their respective MLAs and constituency incharges to garner their support. Jana Sena candidate for Amalapuram municipal chairperson post Nalla Sridhar met Amalapuram MLA Ayithabathula Ananda Rao on Monday. Ananda Rao said Sridhar’s victory was already confirmed, but the alliance was keen on having more -- a resounding majority. He urged the leaders and party workers of alliance parties to step forward like soldiers and work together to secure a win for the alliance candidates.
He said, “Due to the vast development of Amalapuram town with the support of the CM and deputy CM, the people of Amalapuram town would ensure a win for the alliance candidates. Already, `12 crore was released for drinking water projects for Amalapuram and proposals were sent to the government for another Rs 80 crore for some permanent drinking water projects.” These apart, a proposal for allotment of Rs 60 crore to construct a comprehensive drainage system was under consideration, he claimed.
Sridhar said Amalapuram town would be developed with the support of the MLA.
In Nidadavole, Jana Sena leader Dr Kalyana Chakravarthi was aspiring for the chairperson post. But the post is reserved for Scheduled Caste. He subsequently fielded Murala Jyothi, who worked as a receptionist in his hospital, as the chairperson candidate. Chakravarthi is contesting for the post of member from the 4th ward. The YSRC fielded Vedala Vijayalakshmi, a retired bank manager for the chairperson post.
Former minister and Kapu Corporation chairman Kothapalli Subba Rayudu expressed confidence that the Jana Sena candidate would win, as also the ex-counsellor Kothapalli Sailaja for the Narsapur municipal chairperson post. He said the Narsapuram town would be developed. “When I worked as MLA for the constituency, the people enjoyed the fruits of development,” he claimed.
