ACB Raids Sub-Registrar Staff Residences in Vizag, Vizianagaram
Searches in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, follow earlier inspections and cash seizures
Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) carried out extensive raids at 14 residential premises of Sub-Registrar Office (SRO) staff across the state on Sunday, following earlier inspections that revealed corruption in registration offices.
In Visakhapatnam, four premises, including those of Joint Sub-Registrar S. Mohan Rao at Jagadamba Centre SRO, were searched, leading to the seizure of Rs 10,000 in unaccounted cash. A case was registered on December 22. Searches were also conducted at premises belonging to Pandaranki Sudharani, Junior Assistant at Pendurthi SRO, and B. Anand Kumar, an office subordinate.
In Vizianagaram district, six premises linked to Bhogapuram SRO staff were raided after `34,280 in cash was seized during surprise checks conducted in November. The searches targeted Pandilapalli Ramakrishna, Joint Sub-Registrar, and five other staff members.
ASR cops recover 51 stolen mobiles worth Rs 5.45 lakh to owners
Visakhapatnam: The Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district police organised a ‘mobile recovery mela’ on Tuesday and returned 51 lost or stolen mobile phones valued at approximately Rs 5.45 lakhs to their owners.
The police recovered the mobile phones not only from within ASR district but also from neighbouring districts including East Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Vijayawada and Khammam.
Recovery operations extended beyond state borders, with phones retrieved from Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal and Telangana.
Since January 1, 2025, the ASR police have recovered a total of 180 lost or stolen mobile phones with a combined value of approximately Rs 27 lakh.
3 youths die in bike accident
Kakinada: Three youths, Eleti Anjibabu, 23, Eleti Raju, 19, and Kolla Veera Venkata Satyanarayana, 19, of Polamuru village of Penumantra mandal in West Godavari district died in a bike accident at Polamuru village on late night of Monday. Penumantra police said that the youths went to a church to celebrate Semi semi-Christmas at Brahmaa Cheruvu. After participating in the celebrations, they were going to Polamuru to their village on bike, which hit a parapet wall in the village, leading to severe injuries to the trio. They were rushed to the government hospital at Tanuku, where they were declared dead. Penumantra police registered a case.
